Michael Medaglia studied film at the Art Center in Pasadena. He also has a degree in computer science from Caltech, possibly making him one of the nerdiest directors ever. Playing to his strengths, Medaglia combined his skill sets to pursue a career in the emerging hybrid world of film and internet.
After honing his chops directing music videos (Kids Of Widney High), web promos (ParkVogel, Overture) and short television documentaries (Current TV), Michael used his tech pedigree to develop and pioneer what he calls '1.5D technology' with his edgy narrative short 'The Ratsnitch Angel'. The award-winning film was a hit at such fests as AFI Fest, Silver Lake Film Festival, and South by Southwest.
In addition to his film credentials, Michael brings a unique perspective to the constantly-evolving advertising industry. As an experiment in viral marketing, he developed and launched Maim-That-Tune, a carefully engineered microsite that purports to get rid of unwanted tunes stuck in your head. It was linked to by boing-boing, memepool, flabber, i-am-bored and other sites, causing web stats to accelerate from 670 to 70,400 page visits in one day.
When he's not spending too much time in front of a computer, Medaglia is directing promos, music videos and documentaries for broadcast and internet. His work has screened internationally in festivals, art galleries, on television, and even in a public restroom. Concept-driven, edgy, narrative and irreverent, Michael Medaglia brings a unique perspective to his work that is very much in tune with the media-savvy, technologically advanced, forward-thinking culture of the 21st century and beyond.
