How To Survive The End Of The World

Posted in aton edwards, currenttv, news, preparedness, survivalism |

We finished this documentary just in time, with September beingNational Preparedness Month and all. This video goes over the top ten things you should have in order to survive just about anything- at least, according to Aton Edwards. He is the Executive Director of a New York based, non-government organization called the International Preparedness Network, and considered an expert on civilian preparedness.

He is the author of a book called Preparedness Now!”

Preparedness Now!
which features a checklist of products that you and I should have on hand in order to survive a crisis, just in case our local or federal government agencies fail to act in a timely manner.

Aton walks through his “Top 10: Shopping List for Urban Survival” demonstrating each item, and its uses in certain situations. I know you’re dying to know (no pun intended) what you need to go out and buy before the next disaster strikes, the list and the video is after the jump:

Thanks: Dana Beal, Rommell Washington, RJ CoteOkay here’s the list. Note, some people have commented on where to buy the products, so I’ve provided an amazon box below. There’s also mini-site with lots of resources on it.

  • 10. Mini Pry Bar - the video shows how this can be handy when subway doors, in particular, fail to open. A pry bar can also be very useful any other place that has a door: a car, a house, a store, etc.
  • 9. Respiratory Protector - these little gems protect your lungs from harmful fumes, smoke inhalation, and airborne particles.
  • 8. Radiation Detector - it would be nice to know if you were sitting on a radioactive hotspot.
  • 7. Bicycle - Depending on what kind of disaster strikes, there may not be any roads to drive out on, and I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want to walk.
  • 6. First Aid Kit - goes without saying.
  • 5. Alternate Power Source - bio-friendly solar energy is the way to go when the power is out.
  • 4. “Grab-N-Go” Bag -should have the capacity to hold enough clothes for about 2 weeks, and your other 9 survival items.
  • 3. Non-Incendive Flashlight - won’t spark an explosion or fire, and doesn’t need regular batteries that die quickly.
  • 2. Multitool - commonly known as a Leatherman (TM) , you should have one of these anyway.
  • 1. Water Filter - never would have thought of this one- too used to the ample supply of bottled water to choose from at the store.
